Carnival - Halloween Style

The Fall Carnival at La Madera Elementary has been a Halloween tradition in our family since the twins started Kindergarten there. This is an all day event at the school which encompasses all carnival aspects, from cake walks to dunking booths to a very scary Haunted House. Each class is also responsible for running a game booth, which the kids decorate and prepare, and which the parents are expected to run.

This year the twins' class presented Graveyard Golf. They decorated gravestones to put up around the mini golf course which was set in a graveyard. Here are the kids and I in our finest Halloween attire posing at their class game:

(the orange capris are for you Di!)

this is Harriet's decorative tombstone inscription, which I, she, and her teacher thought was pretty clever!

Jack loves running the playground obstacle course, in which he came in second place among the Fifth Grade boys. He said if he hadn't been wearing flip flops he could have been even faster...

This was a new addition to the carnival line up this year: some sort of bounce/bungy/backpack activity. While attached to a backpack bungee cord, you try and run until it pulls you back and you fall down. The parents all stood around scratching their heads at its appeal, but the kids had an absolute blast. Here's Jack and Porter together:

(click on the photo to make it larger and see the intense concentration on both of their faces!)

Henry caught some pretty good air on his turn

but Jed was the master, he managed to jump just right every time!

I spent an hour working the booth for Henry's class, which was the very high maintenance game of bowling. Every time the kids knocked down the oversized pins, I had to scramble to set them up again. There are no photos to say the least, I barely had time to hand out prizes.
Pete served our time in the Graveyard Golf, and Jed's class game booth went completely ignored by the Richardson Family Volunteers. Oh well, there's always next year.

besides, there was more Halloween fun to come, the day was not over yet....

Man . . . you guys are the BEST Porter-sitters!

I had no idea how much fun he was gonna get to have whilst we sign-waved in Laguna Beach. (which was fun too, but not a place for Porter!)

Thanks bunches & bunches . . . and we'll see you on Friday!
