CHOC Star

Those of you in the know know about Henry's adventurous week.

Perhaps he realized we were in the doldrums of summer and decided to spice things up a bit with an all expenses paid (minus $100 co-pay and lunches at the hospital cafeteria) stay at the Children's Hospital of Orange County.

Okay, so maybe that's putting a positive spin on the situation, but needless to say, an ambulance ride in the middle of the night and three days in the PICU at CHOC are no fun at all.

Happily on Friday morning Henry was (finally!) released and able to come home, and by Friday afternoon was running around with Jed, tuning up his bike for the Cub Scout Bike Rodeo that evening, and eating a week's worth of food (and pooping a lot!) to make up for things.

Never fun to see anyone you love on a ventilator

but its better than the alternative when resting comfortably
under the influence of the "Michael Jackson drug" as it
is known around these parts (even the doctor called it this)

breathing tube out and sleeping it all off
(Pete stayed with Henry every night,
see his "bed" in the background)

getting some good feedback from the doctor

Not too fond of the wrap on his arm to
protect his IV line - he wanted it off!

Henry gets plenty of visitors - including Grandma
and Jed. Slept through this visit.

Glad to have all these friends helping when he is moved from
the PICU to the ordinary pediatrics ward

spent a lot of time figuring out mom's new iPhone

The view from his hospital room - the mall and the 5 freeway

and directly across the way these ginormous estate homes
on the hilltop of Nellie Gail in Laguna Hills

By now Henry has been moved into a zip-up tented bed
to contain him, he kept wanting to get up and get out and go home!

Enjoying some Cheerios compliments of the nutrition staff

SO. HAPPY. to finally get that IV off!

posing (somewhat) with the awesome CHOC pediatrics director Dr. Goodman

we're outta here!

Thank you amazing staff at CHOC Mission,
I hope I never see most of you again.

Thank you family and friends,
I pray I never get the opportunity
to pay you back in a similar situation.

Clearly I am not in the know. How awful this must have been! Hope things are much much calmer from here on out.

Wow - What a miracle boy... To see him cruising around at 100% now warms my heart. I hope you guys (i.e. pete & heather) recover just as well!!!
