December, Remembered - Home

Wow, really? January 11th and we're still on December? It's time to just pick up the pace. I mean, Christmas time of year just seems to fly right by, so shouldn't the blog posts as well?

Let's get a move on.

We've made it to Salt Lake City for the Christmas holiday! I'm totally nostalgic and like to come "home" for the holidays. And I always figure we're heading up to Utah this time of year anyways, why not be there in time for for Christmas? We drove up a few days before Christmas this year, and the weather threatened snow the entire time from Cedar City on. We were fine until we hit The Point of the Mountain when we really had to slow down, and then getting up the hill to mom and dad's neighborhood was a bit hairy and I had to run a red light to avoid sliding around and I waved nicely at the lady who waited for me to run the red light, but, we made it!!

So why was I driving and not Pete the man you may ask? Well, I generally don't let him drive in the snow. :-) Just kidding. Sort of. Also, he was sick. He had been getting sick for a day or so or five before we left, but the minute school is out and he is on vacation and doesn't have a million responsibilities to fulfill he allows himself to finally just Get Sick. I've seen it before, and I've talked to other educators who concur that this is the case for them as well.

Pete slept the whole way from just before Las Vegas (when I started driving) pretty much until we pulled into my parent's driveway. We sent him straight to bed in the basement and the next morning I took him to the Insta-Care for a diagnosis and some drugs.

(insta-care waiting room)

Jack went too because he's had a cough for the past few days, and a week or so before Jed had been diagnosed with a touch of pneumonia. But, Jack was given a clean bill of health while Pete was diagnosed with a sinus infection and given some antibiotics. Took him home and put him back to bed.

Memories, nostalgia and winter wonderland weather aside, of course we love to come to Utah to hang out with family. And that's what we did. Spence and Sarah carried on their tradition from last year of decorating gingerbread houses with my kids. This year we went to their place to help them celebrate their first Christmas in the home they bought this year.
It was oh-so-festive and fun!!

pretty tree

Sarah pre-constructed the houses for us and
made us nifty little pastry frosting bags

Harriet's house

sweet little snowy village

decorating the houses was as much fun as eating the
intended decor, but the real draw is Spence & Sarah's
latest addition to the family....

a sweet little black rescue kitty whose name
I'm still not real clear on.

look at that face!

sweet kitty tolerates the attention very well
for the most part, and the kids can't wait
to come back and play with her soon.

Thanks for a great evening Spence and Sarah!!

aww Pete looks shattered. poor guy.

Spence and Sarah’s house is so cute! Perfect place to make fun little g-bread houses. So what’s the story with the nameless kitty?

actually the kitty has too many names for me to remember! But her nickname was xiu bai (sheua buy) which I believe is chinese for snow white. Thats' what we mostly called her.
