Spring Break 2010

Spring break 2010 mostly served to remind me of how quickly this school year is going by.
I can't believe there are only two months left until summer. I can't believe its been a year since Pete and the twins took their trip to Australia. I can't believe a year has gone by and I still haven't been to Australia. This year again our district's spring break and Pete's spring break were the same week - yeah! The week quickly filled up with activites, and we were able to be a bit productive as well as spend some good family time together. No foreign vacations planned this spring break, but we did remind ourselves that we live in an area that many other people travel great distances to come and visit, and decided to do one of those trendy daycation/staycation things.

Monday we took the kids (plus Porter) up to L.A. for the day - the kids wanted to see the Hollywood sign among other things, and I always love spending time in the areas where Pete and I spent the early years of our marriage. I have to say for years I never thought I'd live in California, and now I can't imagine living anywhere else. When I moved here to get married I was pretty much a west coast novice, and now I'm a devoted California convert. And while I'm happy that we ultimately chose to make south Orange County our home, L.A. is an amazing city and I'm glad its only a one hour, six-lane, overcrowded freeway ride away. Click on the album below for some photos of our day in L.A.

Another activity on our spring break list was having
our house tented for termites.
This is a three-day process which involves
bagging up or cleaning out every ingestible
item in the house, packing up the kids for a three day vacation,
and then turning the house over
to the termite guys who encase it in a
giant tent and then fumigate it with poison.
As big of a hassle as this was, it would have
been even harder to try and keep the kids on
a normal school/sports schedule while commuting from
Laguna Beach where we were staying
with Grandpa and Grandma. So we set it up for spring break
when we could just leave the area for a mini vacation
and not worry about things until the job was finished.

Tuesday was spent cleaning out the fridge and pantry
and packing us and the kids up.

Tuesday afternoon Jed came to me and said there was
a lizard in my room - I came in and found this little guy
hiding behind the chair trying to climb the wall.
Jed and I chased him into my walk-in closet where we were
able to finally trap him in a shoe box. Jed took him outside
and let him go, saving his little lizard life from the cloud of death on its way.

Wednesday morning the fun begins!

We planned with our next-door neighbors to tent our
houses at the same time so we each got a discount -
their tent went up first that morning...

I brought my potted plants (including my shamrock)
out of the courtyard, but pretty much all the other
plants in the courtyard were dead or close to dying when we returned.

do stripes make my house look bigger?

Jack and Pete drop by to check on it the next day -

We're blessed to have wonderful family in so many great places - and grateful that grandpa and grandma are thrilled to have us stay with them in Laguna for two nights and three days while our house is cleansed.

I love to take photos of our visits to Laguna,
so there's not much new in this album,
but here's some pics of our three day vacay
in Laguna Beach this spring break.

Our first night in Laguna (after Pete and I enjoy a dinner date
at Thai Bros. and a drive down the coast at sunset) Pete and
Jack build a rocket for the Scout camp-out they are
participating in for the last part of the week.

The campout is at a dry lake bed in the Mojave where
they spend a few days riding bikes,

shooting off guns,

and of course, the rocket.

(windy on those dry lake beds!)

Thanks again everyone who helped make our Spring Break restful and relaxing!
