Okay Mom and CD - this is for you! Sorry I've been a bit absent lately. Time to play catch up.
Let's start back with some of our activities and celebrations in November 2011, BC (Before Cruise).
During the first part of the month Pete and I took a long weekend trip to Sacramento for the state recognition of his ACSA award, and to have a bit of a getaway for just the two of us. As skeptical as I was about Sacramento as a vacation destination, I was completely surprised at how beautiful and charming the city and surrounding area was. Should never have doubted California - like Utah it is beautiful and interesting from top to bottom. We flew up Friday morning, leaving Ann and John with the kids, and stayed until the last possible flight out on Sunday afternoon. The actual awards ceremony was far more low key than the Orange County banquet (as far as Pete was concerned anyway, the actual shindig was a bit fancier) and took up just one short evening of our time. The rest of the vacation we spent walking the streets of downtown Sacramento, exploring the outlying historical areas in our awesome rental Fiat, or just lounging around the hotel room eating and watching movies On Demand.
I posted an album on Facebook of photos of our trip - here is a link:
And CD here is a link to the Halloween album from your visit - in case you hadn't seen these!
Over the Veteran's day holiday, as in year's past, our Scout troop took the opportunity to take a hike. Pete and some other leaders take the scouts on an overnight camp out to Joshua Tree National Park - although it wasn't much longer than 24 hours and it rained a bit, the boys had fun exploring the abandoned mine and dam, as well as the unique landscape, and Jack fulfilled his final night of camping required for his Eagle!

Henry turns 10 in November!
(which means I turn....)

all my kids made Henry a homemade birthday card
Happy Birthday Henry!
Cards and well wishes and a tear-off pad of 10 one dollar bills arrive

Fall soccer comes to an end in November - Jack's season was extended an extra week or two when his team wins first place in their division of our region! The weekend of the championship games are cloudy, and by the afternoon that Jack's team is battling for first place it is pouring rain. The players are soaking wet, and we the spectators are not much drier. Jack plays goalie in all but one of the quarters, and we have him layered with three shirts, a beanie and over sized goalie gloves to keep him warm (because he doesn't see too much action at his end of the field).
every break in the action we wrap him in a blanket
you can see the rain coming down in this photo - Jack guarding the goal
The weather doesn't dampen their joy in winning!

Congratulations Smashing Pumpkins!!
Number one in the AYSO U14 Boys Division!
AYSO is on hand to distribute the First Place trophies - there is a 10 minute break
in the rain after the game when the ceremony is held.

The following weekend Jack and the Smashing Pumpkins play in the Regional playoffs
on a field in beautiful San Juan Capistrano just over the hill from the ocean - they play four
games over two days, and sadly lose every single game.
Still, we are pleased with Jack and his team this season!
Harriet and the Hippie chicks had another great season as well -
looking forward to spring! (but also to the nice two month break
before then...)
