Friday night lights (and cymbals)

This past Friday was the first home game for the El Toro Chargers Football team,
which also means it was the debut of the El Toro Royal Blue Regiment (aka Marching Band)
featuring Jack on cymbals!

Despite being a very WARM evening, Jack seemed very happy all suited up in his marching band uniform, enthusiastically clapping away on the cymbals.
Jack performed with the band playing pep tunes for the first quarter of the game, then headed down on the film to support the cheerleaders on drum line, then he and the entire ETRBR came out and played the first section of the competition selection "For Whom the Bell Tolls" during half time.

Our whole family attended the football game to cheer on Jack and the band (and the football team of course).  It was warm but a very fun, rambunctious atmosphere, we caught occasional glimpses of Harriet and her cadre of friends, and the boys enjoyed being around all the older kids.  The Chargers won the game and a great time was had by all.

I did my duty with the video camera, recording most of Jack's performances.  I had some battery issues with my camera, so I ended up recording the major performances with my iPhone, which, as I've lamented before, doesn't zoom.

Still here are a couple of photos of the night and videos that give a good look at the hard work and fun that Jack is putting in so far as a member of the marching band.  Enjoy!

Gold, Blue and White - Harriet all Chargered Up!

Today at Cross Country someone had made all of the girls
these hair ribbons - Harriet wore hers tonight for the game

Jack near the start of the game - we arrive a few minutes after starting
time to find that we have missed both the band playing the
Star Spangled Banner on the field, and a quick touchdown by the opposing team!

Our vantage point of Jack while in the stands -
check out that cool Reserved For Band caution tape

the sunset was beautiful as the game progressed

A couple of pics of Harriet and her besties

Jack after the performances - great job tonight!

Apparently the tradition for the ET band is to gather at Denny's
after the football games.  That is how I found myself at midnight
picking Jack up at a Denny's packed full of band kids.  He had
to get most of his food to go because he had just gotten it a few
minutes earlier, but it was time to go!  He didn't mind, he was
exhausted after being up at 5 a.m. for the KTLA TV broadcast, and
playing and marching for much of the day.

A 20 hour day for him, but he had a blast
and can't wait for the next one!
