In middle school this year one of the goals the twins have is to become members of The Mile Club. In PE they run the mile once a week, and if they are able to complete it in under a certain amount of time they are in inducted into the mile club, have their picture put up on a wall, and receive a coveted "Mile Club" t-shirt.
The City of Lake Forest, through the Rec department, offers Cross Country running clinics a couple of times a year. Last year Jack completed one of the clinics and enjoyed it. This year Harriet joined him and together they spent six weeks working on their mile training.
Today was the final run, when they race against the other members of their age group. It's actually more casual than it is a competition. They are encouraged to run at their own pace, and at the end everyone receives a participation medal (de rigueur for kids sports these days). The course is a little under a mile, about 3/4 of a mile.
Here they are at the start of the run/race. Jed and Henry and their friend are there to cheer them on.
The clinic is held at one of the larger parks, and every week for the two hour clinic the boys and I have come and played on the playground and hung out while the twins ran.
Jack running with his group. He was a bit ahead until he saw me with the camera,
then he hung back and ran with the group to thwart me.
He eventually came in second overall in his group.
Harriet and her awesome form. She is quick, and came in fourth out of the six runners.
She was the only girl in her age group.

Not sure why the twins didn't wear their clinic-issued shirts today.

This is actually Harriet's second medal received in the past three days -
over this past weekend her Lake Forest AYSO Plus soccer team competed
in a tournament in La Habra. They played hard and won each time until
the fourth and final game - they came in second in their division, losing to Cypress.
but they had a great time!
