Christmas morning is cold and clear, still no more snow. But we do find that Santa dropped by!
While hints had been made for new gaming systems or better handheld personal devices or even a smartphone of everyone's own, none of these things materialized this Christmas morning. We kept it low-key this year. Everyone got around 5 or 6 nice things, but no real big ticket items. Admittedly as kids get older they stop wanting a lot of smaller gifts and want just one or two things that cost way more than all of those smaller gifts combined. But while this Christmas was not the year of the giant haul, no one went away empty handed.
Some of our gifts include:
Gifts from siblings bought at the Dollar Store
clothes
new pajamas
books
and more books
legos
gadgets
including a "chain" of small ball magnets
that can be fashioned into just about anything
a box of pet food, to feed the brand new pet rats we
get upon returning to California
(shown here with Harriet)
After opening gifts, attending a wonderful Christmas morning church service,
and relaxing after breakfast with family, we head down to Provo in the afternoon
to spend the rest of the day with the Halls and the Coes.
We have fun hanging out, playing cards and making snacks and dinner.
The festivities are interrupted when it is discovered that one of the sprinkler
water pipes has burst in the back yard. Have you ever tried to get hold of a plumber
on a Sunday Christmas evening in Provo? We find it easier to believe in Santa Claus.
The water is all turned off. Luckily dinner is already cooked, and I have my
bottled water stash in the back of our van to drink with it.
Despite that bit of drama we have a wonderful time with family,
and I just love how the cousins all get along and have a great time together.
Pete grills veggie skewers for our dinner while Matt and Dave fight the water main.
Merry Christmas 2011!
