On President's day we head to Laguna to spend the day with Grandpa and Grandma
and Porter. It is a cool beautiful day, perfect for some service and a hike in the
hills above north Laguna. Once we arrive everyone attends to their tasks first...
Jack and Grandma prepare some simple snacks for our picnic,
deviled eggs, ants on a log, and homemade lemonade
Pete and Grandpa (and everyone else) are working on reinforcing
the deck and rebuilding some of the termite eaten portions
Jed taste tests the lemonade with Grandma
After enjoying our lunch we head up the street
to a trail head that will take us up above
Grandma's neighborhood to a look out area
with an in-ground water tank and a tremendous view
commemorative plaque at beginning of trail
getting started on the trail and the amazing views
By the time we reach the top (you can see the road/trail below us) everyone is
ready for a break. Our spirits are lifted when we come across this interesting
shrine of painted rocks someone has built on a small plateau near the top of the trail.
Close up view of painted rocks
(I love the whale above to the right, painted to the shape of the rock)
(and the hot dog!) and can you find Diamond Head?
There are trinkets set in and around the rocks as well, Henry
is more interested in these (we left everything as we found it eventually)

We have some time to kill before the pizza we order for dinner is ready,
so we head over to a giant climbing tree in grandma's neighborhood
that has a tire swing attached to it.
I love that there is this tire swing on a community tree,
seems like such a simple but necessary element of childhood
Can you find Jack?
