We arrive in Utah two days before Christmas. Spence and Sarah are awaiting the birth of their first baby, due date December 25th! We are most hopeful that she will arrive sometime within the small
window of our visit, which is only scheduled to be for about 5 days. We arrive in town late afternoon and after dinner CD, Pete and I bundle up the kids to go ice skating. We've barely just arrived in the parking lot of the rink when a text comes from Spencer saying they've admitted Sarah to the hospital! After finding out that the rink is closed for hockey practice we load back up in the van and drive down to the hospital. No children are permitted in the hospital room so Pete takes the kids across the street for
ice cream while CD and me make a quick visit to Sarah and Spence's room, which is quickly filling
up with grandparents, nurses and doctors! We wish everyone well, then head back out
to meet up with Pete and take the kids home, waiting for the latest update throughout the night....
Christmas Eve @ 4:30 a.m. I get the text - our newest cousin and niece born at 4:14 a.m., everyone doing great!
sleeping baby, smiling mommy
We are beyond thrilled at the timing! Of course everyone is anxious to meet her.
Grandma and Grandpa spend the night at the hospital, but after coming home
and catching a small amount of shut-eye they are ready to return with us.
proud papa - congratulations on your baby, baby brother!

me meeting the sweetie
mom and dad with their 10th grandchild - evens up the score to 5 boys and 5 girls!
kisses from Grandma Carol - love her stocking wrap!
Welcome Clara Jane - beautiful name for a beautiful baby!
(Clara was my grandmother's name)
some other things go on around here on Christmas Eve as well...
Jack single-handedly assembles grandma's gift from Ikea-
coat rack to hang our wet sledding gear on!
we make it to the skating rink today -
located literally across the street from the hospital!
skating with auntie CD is fun,
but small compensation for still not being
allowed to go into the hospital and meet our newest cousin :-(
cuties in their matching scarfs
But the day definitely belongs to Clara...
(grandma was so happy she made it in time to wear this
onesie she bought for her)
it's been a busy Christmas Eve - we almost forgot Santa comes tonight!
